Using clay, cardboard, fiber, and found objects, students will sculpt, layer, paint, and build delightfully strange beings with their own unique style. Young artists will be asked what some of their favorite foods are. We will start off by creating our very own art journals to keep all of our ideas and drawings in. Through creative journaling using mixed media and collage, we will identify what connections we make between our favorite foods and our family culture. We will share stories all about the foods we love. Is there a special cake recipe that is reserved only for birthdays? Is there a favorite meal that our Grandmother makes us when she visits? Does mom buy a favorite fruity treat from our visits to the farmers market? How do these foods make us feel? What special memories are being made? Through drawing, painting, collage, and clay, let's explore how we can recreate our memorable foods, utensils and vessels for eating too! We will share, in discussion and play, why we love these foods so much and collectively create our “clay cookbook” to finish off the week.
