OUR CLAY STUDIo

WHEEL THROWING + HANDBUILDING

Two women working at pottery wheels in a ceramics studio with a brick wall, shelves with pottery supplies, and a large leafy plant.

MudCity Clay is a community clay studio located in the historic Gonic Mill in Rochester, NH.  We offer full studio memberships, and year-round classes and programming for children and adults.

We partner with groups and organizations to bring clay into spaces that otherwise may not have access to this incredible healing and community-building arts medium. Our mission is to bring ceramics and ceramic arts education to the broader community, making clay accessible to everyone.

We have two separate spaces within the mill — the Main Studio and the MudRoom.

MAIN STUDIO

Main Studio - MudCity Clay.

Our Main Studio is located on the third floor of the historic Gonic Mill and is where we host many of our adult classes, drop-in ClayPlay, and all of our studio memberships.

It is a fully equipped ceramics studio offering access to both electric and kick wheels, large tables for spreading out, ample storage and shelving, both dipping and paint-on cone six glazes, slab roller, clay extruder, molds, clay tools, and more. It's also home to our staff office and hard-working Skutt kilns. The large windows let in beautiful natural light, where you can experience the beauty of the New England seasons changing with the river below. The wide open, 2000 square foot space offers lots of opportunity for experimentation, connection, and conversation.

MUDROOM

A bright indoor space with a large wooden table surrounded by black and red chairs, brick walls, large windows with sunlight, shelves with plants and supplies, and string lights hanging from the ceiling.

The MudRoom classroom is a dedicated handbuilding studio located on the first floor of the historic Gonic Mill.

This clay studio is where we host all of our kids classes, adult handbuilding classes and ClayPlay, private events, workshops, and summer clay and art camps for kids. This studio is fully equipped with large tables for spreading out, ample storage and shelving, both dipping and paint-on cone six glazes, slab roller, clay extruder, molds, stamps, and lots of tools for creating your hand-built work. We also have a Skutt kiln for firing work dedicated to that studio. Large windows look right out at the Cocheco River where you can experience cool breezes in the summer and an icy river dam right outside in winter. The 1000 square foot studio is cozy and bright. The perfect spot for creative exploration for all ages of muddy play.
